Why removing one site usually changes nothing
The instinct is to deal with the page you found. It is also the most common way to waste money here. A VIN search returns whatever ranks — and if four sites hold the record and you clear the one you happened to find, the search simply returns the next one.
This is the entire argument for scanning first. It costs nothing, it takes a few seconds, and it turns a guess into a list you can price.
What the removal actually does
The record is deleted at the source site, and only then is the search result cleared. The order matters: asking Google to drop a page that still exists produces a result that comes back at the next crawl, which is why do-it-yourself attempts through the outdated-content tool so reliably fail.
What this does not touch
Only third-party listings — pages a commercial website built by republishing the auction feed, including the owner’s photographs — are removed. Official records are never accessed, altered or influenced: Carfax, AutoCheck, the federal NMVTIS database, state DMV title records and insurance records stay exactly as they are.

Frequently asked questions
How many sites will my car be on? +
Most cars that went through a North American salvage auction appear on somewhere between three and eight sites. One is unusual; a dozen is not rare for a vehicle that was exported.
Do I have to remove all of them? +
No, and most people do not. What matters is what a search for your VIN actually returns — clearing the sites that rank and leaving one that nobody finds is a reasonable decision. The scan shows you which is which.
Why do prices differ so much between sites? +
Because the cost of getting each removal done differs enormously, and that has more to do with who controls the site than with technical difficulty. Some sites cost several times what others do.
Is there a site you cannot remove from? +
A few are partial — the listing comes down but some search traces are slower to clear, and a small number are effectively Google-only removals. Where that is the case you are told before you pay, not after.
Does any of this touch my official vehicle record? +
No. Carfax, AutoCheck, NMVTIS, the DMV title record and insurance records are official databases. Nothing here accesses or alters them.
